Host a workshop

Win a fully-funded writing-for-children workshop for your library or community space, presented by an award-winning author from your region

All Stories is on a mission to support people across the UK who are interested in writing for children – especially those from underrepresented groups.

So we’re offering libraries and community spaces the chance to win one of 16 fully funded writing-for-children workshops at their venue, presented by an award-winning author.

That’s not all! Following the workshop, All Stories will also help to establish a writing support group at the venue, to ensure that the workshop participants (and wider community) benefit from continued creative support.

We’d like each host venue to:

  • Promote the event with support from All Stories
  • Offer a space to hold a workshop that holds at least 20 twenty people (seated)
  • Confirm this space to be fully accessible
  • Provide a designated member of staff to liaise with All Stories to organise the workshop
  • Feel that such an opportunity would benefit their venue and local community
  • Believe that local people from underrepresented groups would be interested in attending a workshop

Email your application to workshop@allstories.org.uk by 11.59pm on 24th June 2024.

FAQs

WHEN WILL THE WORKSHOPS TAKE PLACE?
Each workshop will take place between Sept 2024 and Feb 2025, on a date to be agreed with the venue and workshop presenter.

HOW MUCH WILL THE WORKSHOPS COST TO ATTEND?
The workshops are completely free to attend. All Stories will set up each workshop as an event on Eventbrite where people will be able to register online for a free place.

WHAT ASPECTS OF WRITING FOR CHILDREN WILL THE WORKSHOP COVER?
Each two-hour workshop is designed to give participants a great grounding in the basics of writing for children. It will cover everything from choosing a readership and concept to developing plot and characterisation, with time for questions and discussion.

WHO WILL PRESENT EACH WORKSHOP?
Each workshop will be presented by an award-winning author from the local region, giving participants an incredible opportunity to learn from a master of storytelling.

WHAT KIND OF VENUES ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
We are aiming to find 16 host venues that are spread across the UK – in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We’re not just looking for venues in big cities – we want to offer these opportunities to communities that may not often have the chance to host such events.

WHAT SUPPORT WILL YOU PROVIDE?
We will provide promotional material, assets and copy to assist you in the promotion of the event, and a dedicated contact at All Stories who will liaise with you about the organisation of the event.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE ALL STORIES WORKSHOP HAS TAKEN PLACE?
Following the workshop, All Stories will help to establish a writing support group at your venue by providing a local writing group facilitator to organise and run the first two sessions. During the sessions, the facilitator will teach the participants how to continue the writing support group for themselves.

WHAT IF WE HAVE NEVER RUN AN EVENT LIKE THIS BEFORE? CAN OUR VENUE STILL APPLY?
The application form asks for details about any experience you have running similar events. If you haven’t run any events like this before, please don’t worry; this doesn’t preclude you.

WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE WHO CAN’T ATTEND AN IN-PERSON EVENT?
We’re also running online workshops; you are welcome to advertise these alongside your in-person workshop for anyone in your community who can’t attend the in-person workshop.

We understand you might have other questions and will be very happy to answer them – no matter how large or small. Just send a message to our dedicated email address and we’ll get back to you: workshopq@allstories.org.uk
